Lucky to be an Invitee at LPGA LA Open Today

I was one of the few spectators to get into Wilshire Country Club to see LPGA Hugel-Air Premia final round. It was a big chance to follow my favorite LPGA players in one final group: Jinyoung Ko, Jessica Korda and Brooke Henderson. Especially with very limited invitees for the tournament, I was able to see their play so closely. I like all three players, so it didn’t matter who won. Brooke Henderson’s play was outstanding today. After 12th hole, I knew she would be the champion. Happy for her!

Fun to spot us on TV: I was one of the three ladies walking on the path.

Today’s Swing: Simpler is Harder

The best part of this personal blog is that I compare my current swing and previous swing. I can see some progress, but still need to improve a lot on my swing. My swing one year ago looks so complicated and I’ve tried to make it simple. Simpler swing is harder.

Today

My swing one year ago: I’ve been working hard to improve my swing.

Wilshire Country Club: So Hard – Knowing My Golf

Today we played at Wilshire Country Club. Oh… it is a hard course, but it seems harder today with fast green speed and a professional tournament condition. They were busy preparing LPGA LA Open two week away.

This is my golf reality. I had 36 over par and 44 putts today at 6000 white tee. My driver and putting were so horrible, while irons and woods were normal. Kelly was the Wilshire Club Champion in 2020. She is one of my best friends, but I feel the most pressure to play with her. Today she had 10 more strokes than her previous play with me one year ago. But I can see her game is on a different stage now. So great to see her play.

The awesome part today was I saw some LPGA players. Pornanong Phatlum, Angel Yin, Hee Young Park and Yealim Noh. I am a big fan of Yealim Noh, but I didn’t get closer to her, because of covid precautions. I wish she gets over the slow play penalty issue and becomes in winner’s circle.

LA30GOLF: Happy 10th Anniversary

I created a golf group with beginner ladies in their 30’s, LA30GOLF, 10 year ago. Some ladies came and left. Finally, we have had this perfect foursome for five years. My golf was on and off for years, but they have been awesome friends and golf buddies.

We played golf today at Wilshire Country Club. Due to safety and precautions, I didn’t see them for more than one year! Happy golfer again!

Mountaingate Country Club: Going Back to My Old Self

Before a Spring break trip, I played golf with three ladies at Mountaingate Country Club. I got a school auction voucher to play there with three guests one year ago, but finally I got a chance to use it, thanks to vaccine.

The recent problem with my golf is that I want to impress my friends who haven’t seen me for one year. My golf has been improved a lot in my opinion, but I usually go back to myself one year ago, whenever I play with friends recently. The more I want, the more I lose control. It will get better eventually.

Practice Swing vs Real Swing

I don’t swing during a round like swings on these videos: I still have my own weird way to hit balls from out to in creating slices or pull hooks. I didn’t have any good single driver shot during a round yesterday. My body doesn’t remember this new swing yet. But I still have a faith this will work eventually.

Changing Wood Swing like Driver Swing

I mostly focus on my iron and driver swing. For wood clubs, I just relied on my condition for the day. Like my driver, I used to swing ‘out to in’ with my wood clubs. It is time to change.

My new swing gives me a lot longer distances when it works well. I just need patience, time and practice.
My typical wood swing during a round. It has a lot of spins and usually goes right for fades or slices. I didn’t know how bad it looks before videos.
New swing for longer distances, better direction and more power. I probably keep missing shots for a while during a round. But I need to change.

JT is Back!

I was so happy to watch Justin Thomas is back to where he should be after all troubles early in 2021. While most players on the top of leaderboard were struggling with the course condition at Players Championship, I could tell he already played like a winner during back 9 holes.

Back to 19th Hole

Thanks to vaccine, I started playing with friends. I missed my golf buddies a lot. MyongA is one of them. We will play together once a week if a tee time is available. Now I feel like playing real golf.

For the first time in one year, we went to a bar after golf. I wouldn’t do that with other friends, but MyongA got covid vaccine. What a relief! Getting back to normal a little by little.
