Yeah! Another 93 today. That is 20 over par. For last four weeks, I had 94, 94, 92 and 93 at Women’s club. I felt good about my game except putting. Missing one foot putts on 4th and 5th was so painful. The good part is I didn’t make that kind mistakes after those holes.
I felt so confident with my irons today. Youkyoung asked a tip to have iron control. I told her a couple of things I learned from lessons, but the real answer is a lot of practice.
This morning my husband told my 10 year old boy that “ Mommy shouted in sleep ‘That is not the case!’ I was awake and asked ‘what is it?’ and she said ‘Putting!’” My husband and son laughed so loud. I like my husband makes a joke about my golf obsession. He teases me, but in a pleasant way. He didn’t care so much about what I am doing. He calls it “respect.”
Anyway, getting back to the point…. Did I say ‘putting’? I kinda remember I woke up shouting, but I fell a sleep right after. I don’t remember my dream at that point. If my husband didn’t talk about it, I probably didn’t know what happened.
It is funny to realize how much I struggle with putting through my unconscious world.
This is first time I would say I am falling in love with a golf course. I loved each hole at Calabasas Country Club. I’ve played at many different courses, and Calabasas Country Club is one of top 5.
I was lucky to win a bid for my kid’s school auction to play at this private course as a foursome last year. It is a school donation, so I feel good about it. I haven’t got a chance to arrange coming here with my buddies for many months. Finally, we made it!
All of my buddies were so happy with our awesome experience in this course. All staff were so friendly and nice. Very impressed by well-maintained course, challenging layout and beautiful nature surrounding the course.
Score? I had 105 even as a recreational play. This is a challenging course. I wasn’t bad at most holes, but some holes were disasters. Not only me, but all players. At 17th hole, for example, I made on green with third shot while all other buddies’ second shots went into water, but my ball with first put passed the hole and went into bunker. Ended up double par. This was my play for some holes. Hard green and layout to get tricked.
My driver wasn’t working well. I felt good with my driver yesterday practice, I didn’t know why. Luckily, You Kyoung took a video of my driver swing. I know why. I can’t wait to show it to my coach. I really want to change my upper body open at the impact. I’ve tried not to do it, but still working on it.
What a surprising gift the club gives to all players. My buddies were so grateful.
Patrick Reed’s play was totally different from Justin Tomas who started one shot lead at the final round WGC Mexico Championship. At the final group, Patrick hardly used his driver, while other players like Justin played aggressively to make birdies. Turned out he made 5 birdies and only one bogey at 18th hole. His play looked so wimpy, but that was a smart play while other players struggled with mistakes from aggressive play and final round pressure.
At 17th hole, birdie putt made. Finished 4 under par, while Justin had a trouble day 2 over par.
I didn’t pay a lot of attention to recent noises about Patrick. After reading this article, I understand why. Hmmmm.. I don’t think I dislike him after this, but he should be more considered to people. A lot of people think PLAY RIGHT is more important than PLAYING WELL.
BTW, I was shocked to watch Justin Thomas’s play today. He usually managed pressure well at the final round. Today, he was like a different player. Well. This is Golf. Nobody is perfect.
John Rahn, World # 3, had an incredible play this Saturday, moving day at WGC Mexico Championship. Course Record, Hole-in-one and amazing putts made him move from -1 under to -11 under T-4. He can move to World # 1, if he wins this tournament.
John Rahm’s Special Day
Rory showed an amazing 410 yard drive one on green on 12th hole par 4. Mexico City has a high attitude, so 15% more distances than sea level. Still, he was the only player to make the first shot on green for this hole. His putting wasn’t working today. He knows what will make him stay # 1. Just putting is the hardest.
Today is my Thursday golf outing with Jessica, Jenny and Jennie. We like to go to Industry Hills or Black Gold. Industry Hills courses are always very challenging, but today was even harder. A lot of pin positions were on corners near edges. All of my buddies had disappointing scores.
I scored 104. I should expect I have + 6 strokes here than my home course. (139*.2477+73.9=108.33) – (120*.2477+ 72.4=102.12) Trying not to get disappointed with my score. 😊
I have a consistant trouble with my short putt stroke. I don’t like to blame on my equipment because I am not a good player. I just practiced more instead of changing my clubs. Putting wasn’t a big problem for my game last year, since I struggled with my swing.
Now my swing and ball striking are good comparing to golfers in my handicap, but I’ve been always the worst on putting. Since early in January, I’ve looked at putters closely whenever I watched tournaments and had golf rounds with other people.
I wanted to change my putter to Spider (Taylor made) like Rory and Sung Hyun Park, my two favorite players in tours. But it looked complicated. Also, both players get sponsored by TaylorMade and they are not that great with putting comparing to their ball striking. How about Scotty Cameron (Titlist) ? Too expensive. Also, my best golf buddy, Myong Ah and Tiger Woods have that putter. Maybe~~~
Early this month, I was very amazed by Webb Simpson’s putting at Waste Management Tournament. I was looking for Halfmoon shape and heavier putter. Webb had Odyssey Tank Cruiser V-Line (halfmoon shape). Webb is very well-known as a Titlist sponsored player. All of his gears are from Titlist. Not his Callaway Odyssey putter. That is an old version of current stroke lab v-line. We can’t find it at a market any more.
I watched several tournaments focusing putting. Stroke lab V-line is my putter! I bought an used one in case it doesn’t fit with me. So far, it gives me confidence.
I scored 92 (+19) at Women’s Club today. I had several lower scores than + 19 when I just played with my friends. But I always have higher scores at Women’s club, since players have to hole out, follow all official rules and have more pressures.
My Women’s Club Buddies: YouKyoung, Myong Ah
Today I didn’t make a terrible mistake on any hole. Just moderate. My driver was litrle disappointing, but putting for back 9 was good enough for me. I scored the lowest + 6 for back 9 today. Improving Little by Little.
I used to play golf probably twice a month only during weekends, when I worked for three years. I sometimes miss the time I worked so hard and played weekend twilight or early morning golf with my buddies.
Julie, Jisun and Kelly are still my good friends. All of them have professional jobs and they are single except me. Since I don’t play during weekend anymore, we commit to see once every other month to play golf and celebrate birthdays. I envy their professions, and they envy my free time. After working like crazy, I realized I couldn’t have all I want. I really did my best to have everything, but I felt as I was losing everything. I had to choose my priorities.
Today is our golf outing day. I feel so comfortable with them. Since they are singles, most parts of conversations are about boy friends, dating and work. I like to listen their stories.
Golf? I am not serious at all in golf with them. They don’t seem like that, either. We love to hang out and chat a lotwhile playing. They are not consistent players. They probably play golf twice a month as I used to do. They love golf and used to be into golf as I do now. They have their careers as a priority, so some events can easily distract them from golf.
Today we celebrate Kelly L’s professional exam pass which she’d worked for four years. She had a job and studies at the same time. I am so happy for her. I met her 7 years ago and I know how she went through the long journey. She really loves golf and she will be back to golf.
