Matt Kuchar, Triple bogey survivor

People say watching golf tournaments is so boring. Even most recreational golfers don’t watch professional tournaments. I am a big fan of golf tournaments. For me, tournaments are more dramatic than tv shows.

Today Matt Kuchar’s winning at Singapore Open was another drama. Matt Kuchar had a four shot lead until 6th hole. It could have been somewhat a boring show. He is one of the steadiest players in the world and his competitors didn’t show any outstanding performances. On 7th hole, however, his tee shot fell under a tree and his second shot swing didn’t even hit the ball. wow. He is Matt Kuchar! One of the top. He did a lay up third shot. I couldn’t believe Matt Kuchar missed his fourth shot, it became out of bounce and ended up triple bogey at par 5. This is Golf. I’ve watched tons of mistakes by best golfers on tournaments, but his play on this hole was one of the worst. Jazz made birdie on that hole, so they became co-leaders. The game became so exciting after 7th hole. Justin Rose chased Matt Kuchar with back to back birdies, so it was hard to predict a winner until the end. Justin Rose completed as a runner-up.

I admired his strong mental recovery from his disastrous mistakes. As a recreational golfer, my game is not interesting anymore after triple bogey. Hey. Remember Kuchar’s mistakes and victory. Don’t give up the whole game after terrible mistakes. I should find more fun on my game through recovery shots.

Getting to know myself and my golf

Yesterday I played with Myong Ah and I shoted 98 (+ 25) at Rancho Park golf course in LA. Rancho Park is my home course. 25 over par is a slightly lower score than my average play. My handicap is 22. That means my average play at this course is +- 26. (Yard 5644, Rating 72.4, Slope 120)

Oh.. your handicap is so high. That is what I often heard while I play with male players. Well.. this is how much male players and female plays are different.

This is the link to help me understand handicap and the course.

Most of my golf buddies don’t use USGA handicap system. But I think this is the first thing people have to get when they want to be a serious golfer. It is also important to count every single shot until the the ball gets into the hole.

Serious golfer 🤪

My Golf Journey

Hey, it is me, Sunyoung. I am writing to myself because it will be the best way to keep tracks on my golf game.

I started golf nine years ago. Time allowances for my game have been up and down. Thanks to my family support, I get a chance to focus on my game in 2020.

I love to be in a golf course. Mostly, I love to know every aspect of this game. I learn a little by little everyday and enjoy watching tournaments. I am so forgetful, but there are moments and thoughts on golf I don’t want to forget. It will be fun to write what I learn from this game every day.

My current handicap is 22 and my goal this year is 18. I’d like to see me on this blog how to be a better golfer everyday.

Many thanks to myself!
