Be Patient!

I’ve been having a trouble with my driver distance. I am very confident with wood and iron shots, but I get so much thinking when I am on the tee box. I know I shouldn’t, but I can’t help. I was extremely frustrated with my driver today at Ranch Park course.

I understand my biggest problem on my driver is I still hiit my tee shot with descending blow like irons creating a lot of spins. A long way to go to fix it. I just need to be patient.

This was from yesterday practice. I just want to add more power and distance.

Moving to the Next Step : Downswing & Impact

I’ve got a lot of lessons from many golf teaching pros. There were many things I learned from them, but I felt like something crucial is missing in my swing. I am still not sure how to change my downswing and impact position to increase distances. Now I know I need to increase distance to go to the next level by changing downswing and impact.

Today I played with a 70 year old lady with half back swing. It didn’t look nice, but her tee shot is around 200 yards. The only impressive part on her swing was impact position. She can make this position like pros.

This is mine. 😢

Today I found some good lessons for downswing and impact. Amazingly, they are talking about same things none of my teaching pros taught me. I think that was because I was a high handicapped player who needed to focus on hitting ball straight. Well… I think I can try to make that downswing and impact position. It may takes a lot of time and practices. Good thing is I have nothing but time. 😊

Changing my downswing path from yellow line to green line.
This video shows what I want to do.

WOW! Kelly, New Ladies Club Champion at Wilshire Country Club

Kelly was very excited to tell our golf group she became a ladies club champion at Wilshire Country Club where LPGA tourmanents in LA were held. I was so happy because I know how hard she’s worked hard on improving her game since we met.

We first met almost 10 years ago, when I created a golf beginner group. Four members are still close friends. We were just recreational players, but Kelly played on a different level above us. She gave a lot of motivations to become a better player. Her hard work pays off. I should work harder to play with her after this pandamic. 😊

Aug. 17 Rancho Park – Playing with Myong Ah!

I haven’t seen my golf buddies for 5 months including Myong Ah, my best golf buddy. I decide not to mingle until this pandamic is over. Today I went to the course by myself and got the same tee time with Myong Ah! What a surprise! She came with a new buddy, but we were so happy to play together.

She is still a solid player and very good at short game. I feel my swing and ball contact get better, but I am still working on my driver. I want to change many parts of my driver swing. I know I need a lot of time and patience.

All of my golf buddies meet and play together, but today I realized it is not good for me because friends talk too much. That means it has more chances for the virus. I miss my friends a lot, but my family health is my priority.

Back to Normal Self

My life hasn’t been same after hearing heartbreaking news happened to my families in Korea. I couldn’t focus my golf game for a couple of months, but now I am back. I have to move on. I appreciate my normal life.

Summer break for kids is almost over. I’ve played golf twice a week at Rancho Park golf course. Also, I continue working on my swing. Today I watched all swings on this blog. I will continue uploading videos to monitor my swing.

Today I worked on my takaway without bending my right arm.

Finally! Getting Back to Range!

After staying home for 70 days, I practiced at the driving range today. Finally outside! This seems 100x safer than going to a market. I noticed City of LA works hard on details to be safe at the course. At the driving range, balls and baskets were washed. Hand sanitizers are available at the ball dispenser. It is very easy to keep social distancing.

I felt so amazing to hit range balls with my irons. My swing motions don’t look what I’ve practice at home, but still most balls flied high, straight and far. Wow. I was so happy to have this feeling! yeah! It was worth to practice at home.

Oh MY Driver! I am completely lost! I hardly practiced my driver during the time. Just hoping the same swing as irons. But it isn’t…I need to add more at-home seasons for my driver. I am back to golf.

Day 61: KLPGA Championship Congrat Hyun Kyung Park

I’ve watched KLPGA tournaments for years. KLPGA has a lot of potential young players. My favorite player is Hee Jeong Lim who was a rookie as three time winners in 2019. She was a three stroke leader after the third round. But Hyun Kyung Park defeated Lim.

Hyung Kyung Park was an outstanding rookie in 2019, but she didn’t win any tournament last year, while her four rookie rivals got throphies last year.

I was so surprised to watch this tournament, because I can see how hard most players have been training before this first tournament. I can tell how their swing changed.

To me, Hee Jeong Lim
Is the cutest golfer. 😍

Day 60: KLPGA Championship Tournament Starts in South Korea: WWGR # 3 Sung Hyun Park Missed Cut

I’ve been waiting so long for golf tournaments. Finally, a big KLPGA event started in South Korea three days ago. I was so excited to watch the whole first and second rounds. All people at the course should get temperature checked and disinfectant. Most caddies wear masks. A gold course is very easy to keep social distances.

But it was not so much fun. As a big fan of Sung Hyun Park, I was very frustrated to watch her play, esp putting. She had 34 putts at the first round and 35 putts at the second. She has an excuse that her competitive round was CME Championship 6 months ago. A lot of players try to get back to their own play, but Sung Hyun may need more time to get adjusted.

Still, I have several favorite players in KLPGA and they are on the top of leaderboard. I will keep watching them. 😊
