Genesis Invitational: Adam Scott is the Final Winner! What an Obstacle Course!

Adam Scott, former # 1 world ranking in 2014, showed his strong performance on the final round and won the tournament. Adam is my third favorite following player in this tournament. (After Tiger and Rory) He was barely noticeable for past years in this tournament, until last year. He was in final group in 2019, but scored 5 over par.

This year, he was different. He made terrible mistake on 5th, resulting double bogey. However, he was calm and bounced back with steady play. It was very sweet to see his winning and smile at this tournament.

The biggest news was not Adam Scott’a winning this week tournaments. Massive article mentioned Rory’s collapse with triple bogey on 5th hole. I realized why this course is so tough even for pros. Rory barely made his birdie chances. This course is like an obstacle course. Even tbougb you play right without a mistake, you can easily get trapped by the obstacles. Still, Rory was the best ball striker on the course and finished T-5.

ISPS Handa Australia Open: Inbee Park’s 20th Victory

Inbee Park came back! She got her 20th LPGA trophy today at ISPS Handa Australia Open fighting with high wind. Her last victory was 2 years ago. After winning gold medal at 2016 Olympic, people were told Inbee Park considered retirement. She denied the retirement, but she did slow down her tournament schedule. Such a talented and young lady should continue to make a history in LPGA.

I like Inbee Park’s play and personality. She is very nice and friendly, but very confident on her game. Her swing seems a little different from other players, but I was surprised to see her swing at LA open, Wilshire Country Club. It was just a nice and smooth swing when you just see it at the tournaments.

Ayean Cho was at a second place to start the final round. She again lost her control carded 4 over par. Better than last week, still very disappointing. She interviewed the problem last week was due to her impatient personality when things get wrong. This week was the same problem. I can tell she slowed down her play to be patient, but her mind wasn’t. She smiled a lot, but that didn’t look natural.

Ayean Cho will be a great and talented player. This kind of experience will make her stronger. We will see her at LPGA soon!

Genesis Invitational 3rd Round: Rory, Matt & Adam

Should I go to Riviera today to see the tournament as a spectator? Well, I stayed home with kids, because I feel bad to be obsessed with golf. Still, it was a fun Saturday. Rory showed he is # 1 player in the world and Adam had an awesome round. Both of them are my favorite players. Happy to see Adam’s game is back today.

Watching Rory’s play is just entertaining. He has powerful and beautiful swing. The only disappointing thing is that he missed 8 times within 11 foot putts. He has many chances for birdies, but putting wasn’t working. I understand this green is tricky, but Adam and Matt made good putts. Those three big names are T-1 on leaderboard today. It will be a battle between long game and short game tomorrow.

How about Brooks Keopka’s rivalry? I like Rory’s mindset. From an interview this week.

Feb. 13 Genesis Volunteer Hard Work Day, Tiger is the center of the tournament.

Second day volunteer. We had only 6 volunteers on 18th hole today. Three volunteers didn’t show up, so we couldn’t rotate our shift and had no time for lunch or restroom break until a volunteer came to help around 3 pm. It was a hard day. But I didn’t mind hard work. I came here to help the tournament. PGA tour gives me a lot of great time while I am watching. This is the only chance I can give my little help to PGA.

One of my jobs today was checking up credentials when people try to use player’s stairs to the putting green and club house. I did that for Tiger, too. A spectator told me I looked tough enough. 🙃

I am writing this post on Sat. morning because I was so tired from the work on Wed and Thu. and another volunteer for my son’s school yesterday. I felt a sleep at 8 pm on Thurday and Friday. Good sleep!

The most fun thing on Thursday was to watch Tiger’s play and crowd. Whenever people asked where tiger is, it was easy to tell “Just follow the crowd.” He is so distinguished from other players. There will be no legend like him in golf for many many years. I also feel bad for other players. Even though people don’t give attentions on the best players in the world. However, all of us including most players understand that Tiger’s success has a huge possitive impact on whole golf industry. His legend hasn’t finished yet.

The least popluar hole is probably the 5th which is furthest from the entrance. Comparing crowds betweeen Rory and Tiger during quiet Thursdaty on 5th hole.

Feb. 12 Genesis Invitational Pro-Am Marshall

This is one of my big annual events. This is my third year to work as a marshall on 18th hole at Genesis Invitational tournaments. I like to work on Pro-Am day, because players are not very tense and we have flexible schedule because of less spectators.

This is YouKyoung joined me as a partner. So glad to work with her. Most amateurs’ driver shots got stucked on the large yellow bushes behind mine, while 100% pros drived further than the hill.

As an amateur, I watched closely how amateurs were playing. I got some confidence on my game. A lot of amateurs’ swing and shots were not better than mine. Three putts seemed average on this green. I imagined myself on the course and felt the nerve from amateurs. Amateurs’ play was as fun as pros.

I was happy to get a photo with Sung Jae Im who won PGA tour Rookie of the Year 2019. And he is the highest rank among Korean players on PGA. Everybody admits he has a great personality and great game.

We saw Angel Yin, LPGA pro. She seemed surprised when we recognized her.

Our team today.

Feb. 11 Rancho Park Women’s Club: How to Know I am Improving: SwingU Numbers

Today is women’s club day. I scored 94 which is exactly same as last week. 47 for front 9 and 47 for back 9.

I love to see numbers and stats. That is why I am keeping my scores at SwingU GPS app. I’ve been using this app since Oct. 2018. That is a perfect app to understand my game. This is not only for GPS, but showing all stats and facts about my game.

It shows all my 86 previous rounds and makes stats based on my previous game. That is why I understand which parts improved and which parts I need to work on.

My favorite part to see is my GIR (Green in Regulation). Today my par 5’s GIRs were good, while par 3’s GIRs were not satisfying. Par 5’s GIR improvement means my shots get longer and accurate.

There are other cool features on this app. I always recommend my friends to use it, but no one does. Well… Nobody around me finds fun from numbers, as I do.

Exciting Week: Genesis Invitational Volunteer (my third year)

This is the week I get so excited in February. That is not because of Valentine’s day, but because of Genesis PGA tournaments. Nonetheless to say, I am a big follower of PGA tournaments. I came to see Genesis tournament as a spectator for many years. Since 2018 when I stopped working, I ‘ve come to volunteer as a marshal at 18th hole. So, this is my third year as a marshal at Genesis Invitational.

This costs $ 70, but I was surprised
I had to buy my own uniform at the first year. But it is worthy!

For many years, this event was somewhat quite. Some top rankers played here, but not huge stars. It seemed one of small PGA tournaments. Since 2018 when Tiger came back to Riviera as a host, this tournament became a total different tournament. When he missed the cut on Friday 2018, I was worried that he might not be back. But he came back in 2019 and tied 15th. This year, he is the host, again, expecting a huge crowd.

18th hole again this time! That is a fun hole to be as a marshal. Volunteers from Lakewood men’s club have been in charge of this hole for many years. Now I feel so comfortable working with other volunteers at this hole. All volunteers are so friendly and helpful. This year, You Kyoung, one of my golf buddies, will volunteer, too. I am glad to spend my time on helping this industry and community I love.

I can only volunteer on Wed. and Thu., when kids are at school. My husband usually doesn’t like to help kids to school in the morning, but good thing is that this is Valentine’s week, so he is usually very supportive. My daughter goes to Paul Revere middle school, 5 min walking distance from Riviera country club. So, I may come here with my daughter. That is exciting, too.

18th hole at Riviera. Today You Kyoung and I walked through 18th hole after volunteer training.

What a Drama! Congrat, HY park!

Wow. I posted Hee Young Park’s story on Jan 30, after I met her in person at Wilshire country club. My buddies and I gave up playing golf because of hard wind, but Hee Young came to play golf with the wind at Wilshire country club. I assumed that helped her play in high wind today.

Hee Young Park finally won LPGA tournament, ISPS Handa VIC Open! So happy for her. Her last victory was in 2013. Today I watched the tournament hoping her to win. Mostly, I became to like her because she was so friendly to us in person 10 days ago.

ISPS Handa Vic Open is a unique game European and LPGA tour players play at the same event. Awesome Min Woo and Hee Young, my two favorite players won the tournaments.

She went to Q school last year to continue to play at LPGA. First time Q-school in twelve year LPGA. I can imagine how she desperated to continue her career. As I mentioned, She married in 2018 and she could just settle down with her upscale marriage. So glad she didn’t give up. I didn’t get many chances to see her play on TV, but today I saw how experienced and talented she is. As I posted, 2020 will be her another great year. Congrat!

This is just 10 days ago in LA Wilshire
Country Cluv

Another dramatic drama, asomewhat tragedy: Ayean Cho’s 81. She was a solo leader starting final day. She could receive LPGA tour card with winning this tournament. But Ayean couldn’t overcome pressure and wind. She scored 81.

Ayean was a KLPGA rookie of the year 2019. But I don’t like people make her too commercial. Even, there is a recent Korean TV show about her training during this winter. I wish she could focus on her game, instead of her media exposure. She probably know it by now. She will be another great playerr.

Min Woo Lee Finally!

I’ve been a big fan of Min Woo Lee for two years since he was an amateur. When I watched a tournament two years ago, I found out he was Min Ji Lee’s brother, one of my favorite LPGA players. I saw a lot of times Min Ji adored Min Woo, two year younger brother. Their relationship always make me think about my kids, Julia and two year younger brother, Davis.

Today Min Woo finally made his first European tour victory. Wow. I’d been waited so long. Whenever I looked at European tour leaderboard, I tried to find his name on the leadeboard. He was not that impressive in 2019. He was still a brother of Min Ji Lee, five time LPGA winner. He has all kinds of abilities to be one of the best players in the world. Still, he has to control his temper. He is so competitive and anxious.

Today, Min Woo was better to control his mind. He looked calmer than any tournaments I watched. I liked to see his smile on the course. He is now experienced. Min Ji Lee looked so excited to watch his brother’s first victory. Min Ji won LA open, LPGA tournament last year. When I got an autograph from Minji at that time, I told her I am a big fan of you and your brother. She gave me a big smile. Min Woo is a little brother who wants to be better than his sister. It was funny that Min Woo made a joke now he is a better player than his sister.

So happy for them. 🤗

Feb. 7 Rancho Park : Solitary golf

People find me as a social and outgoing person. I like people and parties. I can chat with anyone at any situations. I like to get to know people. Everyone has their own interesting stories. Golf outing is a fun activity I can socialize with my buddies. I love to play, chat, laugh and sometimes drink with my friends at golf courses. Golf is a big part of my social life.

At the same time, I like to enjoy solitude. Golf course is one of the places I can enjoy time by myself. Peaceful and quiet. So, sometimes I play golf without my golf buddies. Of course, I meet new people in my tee time group, but I feel they are somewhat invisiable, when I play my game.

I feel so comfortable at my home course, Rancho Park. I know most of staff and they are so friendly to me. I greet many players who come regularly to the course and they are gentelmen and golfers. I can be comfortable to be myself at this course.

I don’t need to talk and I don’t need to listen. I can just focus on my game and the next shot. Today was a perfect day for my solitary golf. I joined a scratch player and son and father players. They were quite but pleasant players. I had a great round scoring 92.

I like small talk to players I meet at a course, but that is very limited and I can start and stop conversations any time. Just keep smiling and friendly, and give compliments on other players’ good shots. That is enough for today.

Still, it is more fun to play with friends. Can’t wait next Tuesday! 😊
