Time to Start Golfing: My Husband is In, too!

Golf has been getting so popular since pandemic. A lot of people start or resume golfing. It seems a great chance to ask my husband to restart golfing when no one can join our tee time.

The reason I started golfing 10 years ago was that my husband, David wanted to have a couple’s hobby and asked me to learn golf with him. He quitted golfing after a couple of months when he got so frustrated with waiting and time consuming.

Unlike I expected, he could actually hit balls. His driver shot went to the 150 yard pole at 420 yard par 4, even with my driver. I didn’t see many golfers whose ball could travel to that mark. That shot made him get into golfing! (Even though he made more than double pars on most holes)

Now he said he would go golfing once a week with me. Yah! I am not alone at the golf course. Just hope he gets to learn patience.

David read the plaque, Arnold Palmer making a septuple-bogey 12 on par 5, 18th hole.
It looked pretty good for the first driver since he was a kid. He went golf courses with his grandpa when he was a little kid. He said he even had a hole in one.

Again! Safer At Home Order

I haven’t seen my golf buddies since March and tried not to interact with other players during a round. But it is not everyone’s case. Most people come with friends and mingle. Most of them don’t wear masks. I understand it is outside and their choice. I don’t want to judge their choices. It is my choice not to mingle and not to take off a mask during a round.

Actally, I don’t feel comfortable to play in a group with the elderly. Often, I see they don’t even wear a mask, play with friends and use a restroom at the course. I just wish they stay safe.

Now we get another stay-home order. I am not allowed to book a tee time alone as a single player and two players have to be from a single household. Time to think about ways to take kids or husband to the course.

Today’s Swing

I felt my body moved more to right during takeaway to make a steady head. Actually, it didn’t look like moving to right. Instead, my head still moved to left slightly during takeaway. On the backswing top, my head moved back to right. 🤔 This may be enough for now. It will be better eventually.

I got a new bad habit on driver top swing. Also, I need to focus on setup next time. Why can a lot of people do, but not me? I need endless lessons through my life.
This little device makes my home practice more fun! I tried at a course, and it worked so well.

A Little Addition for My Playground : PRGR Portable Launch Monitor

Practicing at the backyard has a lot of limitations to know how my balls fly. I wished I had something like a trackman to know how long my practice balls go and how effective my swing practice is. I am just getting into an intermediate golf, I don’t want to go crazy about all details.

I watched an ad for a PRGR launch monitor and, read and watched so many reviews. It seemed a lot more positive reviews than any other portable launch monitors. Mostly, it costed only $200!

I was so excited to open the package today. I was disappointed when result numbers didn’t came out for the first 10 mins, only screen with blank numbers. I regretted buying this, but found out the batteries it came with were so weak. With new batteries, it worked fine. I played with it a little, but didn’t have enough time to know it today. Happy with my first use.

Great to know swing speed, ball speed and smash factor. The first one had a higher ball speed, but the second one had a better smach factor 1.48. So many other factors for real distances, but this is good enough for now!

Today’s Swing

I changed camera angle to see my impact, but ended up focusing on my head position. My head moves everywhere during backswing. It’s been bugging me since I started golfing. Why is it so hard to fix it? Last resolution for 2020!

This is even better than my first few swings.

No Wasting Time: Chipping Practice

It usually takes 4 hours to finish a round, Most of time, I need to wait at the tee box. Especially par 3 is longer. 5 to 10 min wait. As a solo player without friends, I used to check my phone. A few months ago, I started using the waiting time instead of wasting by practicing chipping near par 3 tee boxes.

I can practice chipping for 20 to 30 mins at four par3 holes during a round. Actually, my short game got a lot better in this way. Just worring about my wedge to be worn out.
