Patrick Cantlay: He Can Smile!
Patrick Cantlay won ZoZo Championship today. He is in the type of players who don’t show emotions during play. Finally, we saw his smile with a throphy. I wanted him to win mostly because he was from Long Beach near LA and a UCLA alumnus. Also, I admired he could overcome the tragedy, his caddie(friend)’s death in front of him in 2016.
Still I don’t like his slow play, no emotion and no personality during tournaments. Well.. that is who he is.

Today’s Swing
Golf memory of 2020
Today I had the same tee time with with YouKyung and her husband by chance. I haven’t played with her since pandemic started. It was unexpected, but happy to see her. I miss the time I had a lot of fun playing with my golf buddies. A few more months left!

OMG!
I thought he got better at controlling his anger. Maybe not! That is not cool.

The Best Score with the Worst Driver Swing
Today I scored + 16 at Rancho Park. My usual scores are between + 20 and + 25. My putting was better than usual. 34 putts and no 3-putt. Wood and iron shots were straight. Even driver shots were straight.
But I am not that excited. My driving distance came back to 150 yards. 🙁 Straight but short. The worst driver swing in recent games. Because I try to change backswing more to right than back, direction seems more accurate. I can tell distance differences with woods and irons. But I need to find another downswing path to have better impact for my driver with this new back swing path. My 3 wood was great. My ball with 3 wood went 165 yard and made a par on 8th hole.

Talent < Hard Work < Having Fun
In a YouTube video, someone mentioned a famous golf sayings: someone who has a talent can’t beat someone who works hard. Someone who works hard can’t beat someone who enjoys it. This saying really comforts me because I don’t have any talent on golf or any sports. It is just fun to play golf.
A few days ago I watched an Feherty episode as a guest, Rory Mcilroy in 2016, Back then, Feherty asked Rory if golf was fun for him. I was sad that he said no and he played mostly for his legacy. We can see younger Rory, younger Jordan, younger Lydia, etc looked they enjoyed the game in the early tournaments. Now we can see they play for something else, not for fun.
I should keep in mind: if I enjoy playing ans have fun, my game will be better and better.
Today’s Swing
Today I focused on my takeaway hand and head positions. Better, but still very frustrating. 😕
You Play Like You Practice
Now I find practice is as fun as play. I wish I have more time to practice, but always taking care of family comes first. Maybe, limited time makes golf more fun.
My swing thoughts make my swing at a course hard. I can tell my swings at a driving range and at a golf course are different. I need to adjust many things during a round. That is the most frustrating part on golf. I need to practice more and more to be comfortable with swing and reduce the gap.
Someone at the driving range today told me my driver distance must be more than 180 yards, even 200. Nah! ‘You play like you practice’ is the hardest in golf.
The CJ Cup
Eleven Korean players at PGA CJ Cup among 78 players this week! Most Korean PGA players are mainly sponsored by CJ. CJ has the same founder of Samsung and it is managed by his family. People mainly regard it as food company, but entertainment industry is more famous: movie Parasites and music BTS were globally successful recently.

A lot of Korean players make this event more fun to watch. Since it is held in USA instead of Korea this year, I can also watch a lot of top rankers’ play in this event. Today’s featured group shows Mcilroy and Keopka’s play. Both were just playing so so this week.
